From First Visit to Fitted Shutters
DDI’s process starts at your home, not in a showroom. A qualified decorator visits with a full sample kit. You view timber, polyresin, and aluminium panels under your own room light. The decorator measures each window on-site. Your shutters are then custom-manufactured at DDI’s Sydney studio. DDI’s own team installs every job. No subcontractors are used at any stage. To book a free in-home consultation, visit 104 Hampden Road, Russell Lea NSW 2046, or call (02) 9712 2722. Trading hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Inner West Sydney’s Custom Shutter Specialists
DDI has operated from Russell Lea since 1991, for over 30 years of fitting shutters across Drummoyne, Balmain, Concord, Leichhardt, Strathfield, and Rozelle. DDI is the Inner West’s authorised Luxaflex® Australia showroom and the only Hunter Douglas Gallery in the area. No other shutter business in the Inner West holds both credentials. DDI’s own team handles every installation, with no subcontractors used at any point. Every product carries a 2-year warranty on both materials and workmanship. If you are also considering blinds, DDI’s full custom blinds Sydney range is available for layered window treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions — Custom Shutters Sydney
A1: Custom shutters are louvred window panels built to the exact dimensions of your windows. They are not standard-size products trimmed to fit. Each panel is manufactured to your window opening, including arched, bay, and non-standard shapes. They control light, privacy, and ventilation. Common materials are timber, polyresin, and aluminium, each suited to different rooms and exposures.
A2: It depends on the room. Timber suits dry living areas and heritage homes in Balmain and Leichhardt, where warmth and grain matter. Polyresin suits bathrooms, laundries, and any room with high moisture or west-facing afternoon sun. It will not warp or yellow over time. DDI’s decorator will recommend the right material at the in-home visit. See timber shutters Sydney for comparison.
A3: Yes. Aluminium shutters in particular are built to fit arched, angled, and other shaped openings. The panel frame is manufactured to match your window profile precisely. Federation homes in Rozelle and Ashfield often have arched fanlights above doors and windows. DDI measures each opening on-site and manufactures to those exact dimensions. No approximation, no trimming.
A4: Yes. Shutters add long-term value in three ways. They reduce heat gain on north and west-facing windows, which lowers cooling costs. They last longer than fabric blinds in high-UV rooms. The Window Shading Association of Australia confirms that internal shading products meaningfully reduce solar heat gain in Australian homes. Shutters also add resale appeal in the Inner West property market.
A5: DDI offers a 2-year warranty on all shutter products and installation. This covers materials and workmanship across timber, polyresin, aluminium, and Luxaflex shutters. The warranty applies to both the panels and the fitting. Your decorator will walk you through the full warranty terms before any order is confirmed.
